ABRACADABRA
Abracadabra, or “Avra kehdabra” in Aramaic language, means “I will create what I speak.”The meaning of the word “Abracadabra” is associated with the great creative power of language.
“Words and magic were in the beginning one and the same thing and even today words retain much of their magical power.” Sigmund Freud
The word Abracadabra was discovered in the second century AD when Serenus Sammonicus, physician to the Roman emperor Caracalla, in his book Liber Medicinalis, in chapter fifty-second, ordered malaria patients to wear a talisman containing the word inscribed in a triangle. The talisman is created by typing the word Abracadabra one letter less at a time until it forms a triangle.

It has been claimed that the power of the talisman eliminates deadly diseases. Other Roman emperors, including Geta and Severus Alexander, were also followers of Serenus Sammonicus’ medical teachings and were users of the Abracadabra Amulet.
The Creative Power of the Word
When you look at the etymology of the word “Magic”, you will see that its meaning has changed in the last few centuries.
In the late 1400s, the meaning of magic was “the power of influencing events and the art of creating wonders by using mysterious supernatural forces.” Our thoughts and imagination are examples of these “mysterious supernatural forces” we use (masterfully use) in order to create consciously. In other words, real magic is the art and science of inspiration to make it real according to the real will. It is the power of focusing on your creative mind and graciously bringing your highest intention forth.
Real magicians integrated gnosis (knowledge of spiritual mysteries) into their divine natures and the course of energy. They honor their unity with whole existence and consciously use their thoughts, communications, and physiologies (body language) to create with a net intention… and without a thirst for an outcome.

“Words” contain messages maintaining their reality and existence out of time and space.
Emotions, thoughts, intentions, and opinions have been all put into words since early ages. They are spoken, written, composed as a song, and turned into decisions and laws… All the different emotions such as happiness, sorrow, excitement, and fear can be expressed with only one word. Examples such as the survival of the words spoken by Ancient Greek philosophers until today prove to us that what was tried to be told centuries ago is the same as what is tried to be told today. Religions, movements, periods, ages… Various ideas and purposes in each one of them… The one tool used to express all of them is language. The language of a society reflects its culture. This is because language is a being living and taking form among us.
Have you ever paid attention to the descriptions you used when narrating an incident you went through? Which words do you use for situations making you happy? How do you describe the situations making you sad? What kind of words are usually dominant in your language, positive or negative? Actually, this is about whether we see the glass half full or half empty. Our frame of mind reflects on our language and our language shapes our life.
Rain is a “blessing” for a farmer while it is a “misfortune” for someone about to ride a bike. Life is actually the way it is.
We only try to interpret it in our own way. In that case, it lies in our hands to choose the positive words while doing these interpretations. Why should we think and speak positively? Because we raise and live what we focus on. Therefore, we must attach great importance to what we speak.
As we wish for everything to take a turn for the better, continuously filling our talks with things not going better, things on the negative side, prevents us from progressing. It is like putting salt in a cake mix instead of sugar and persistently continuing this process while uttering that we want to make a great cake. Do you believe that it is possible to change the outcome? Ultimately, you would say; “There is a problem in this cake; I had better make a salty pastry.” Life is just that simple. We succeed when our wishes, words, and behaviors are in a harmony. If there is disharmony, we fail and give up in the end in spite of our great efforts.
Word is Magic
My ability to reflect my wishes upon my words and behaviors is an indication of my self-belief. So, in fact, all the words we say are magic, they have creative powers. I think that’s exactly what Abracadabra is telling us. It is a universal word that has spread to all languages and cultures in the same way, and its purpose is to explain that the word is magical.
My duty is to give what I receive. I receive “words.” I give “words.”
I share the “moment” with you when you are reading even for just that moment and maybe we plant the seeds of other beautiful moments. Even reaching you like this is magic 🙂
What a beautiful message Rumi gave about the power of the word:
“For every event that can happen in the world, countless possibilities sleep in the world of illusions. You awaken those possibilities with the words you say. Say good words so that good possibilities will awaken. Man’s intervention in his destiny is this.”
Sufis say that the word becomes a prayer and comes into being. Therefore, they do not take any negative words into their mouths.
The Importance of Positive Speech
We need to clear our language of negative sentences and fill it with positives. We should make positive speaking our goal.
We must do this for ourselves first and foremost. We must stop being self-critical and cruel, and be content with ourselves. Because you deserve it. How are we going to change a language that has been dominated by negative patterns until now? This structure, which you have shaped for many years, can be changed very easily by concentrating on it, dedicating time to it and practicing. All you have to do is volunteer for it. There is nothing that you want and cannot achieve.
In order to practice, we need to record positive sentences in our mind, our consciousness-subconscious, in short, in our entire being, until they reach our cells. We have to delete old records and replace them with new ones. Affirmation sentences are the best start for this goal. You can think of it as a goodwill activity, like praying before bed, first for yourself and then for the entire universe.
